About
Members
The Timebank is only as good as its members and the skills, talents and time offered are dependent on the members at any one time.
Without a doubt, you all have skills and talents to offer and the Timebank can help unlock these and put them to good use.
Everyone can join, here a few examples:
- Individual Haringey residents (over 16 years old)
- Local businesses
- Community groups
- Local organisations
- Schools …
Cost
The Timebank doesn’t use cash … it uses time. No matter your skills or qualifications, your time is worth the same as everyone else’s. For every hour you put in you get an hour back. In its most basic form this is about neighbours helping neighbours.
Support
The Timebank Brokers support members every step of the way. They link you to other members, provide ongoing support, bank your credits and help you spend them.
It works a bit like this …
Once you’ve joined up and started giving and receiving help, the Timebank Brokers will record your credits to the national Timebank system, which you are able to access. You will up kept up-to-date with wants and offers through the Listings page and regular updates allowing you to spend your credits whenever suits you.
What if? …
… I can offer something but I don’t need anything
The Timebank has a community chest. This is a pool of time credits which we can dip into to help those less able to contribute. Alternatively why not set up an account for your local group and donate your credits to the group? For example you could donate to your children’s school, your neighbourhood or your local park group.
… I need something but I can’t offer anything
The Timebank Brokers can help you think about your skills. We understand that in some cases you may not be in a position to help anyone else and that’s where the community chest (see above) comes in.
The Timebanking Network
The Haringey Timebank has been in existence since 2007. We are part of a larger network of Timebanks across London who are regularly in touch with each other.
If you are not a Haringey resident go to:
http://www.timebanking.org/ and enter your borough or home town in the ‘Find My Nearest’ box.
